Tara & Josh’s E-Session

We fell in love with Tara and Josh the minute we met them. They drove in from Tuscaloosa, where Tara is a nurse and the pair work at the same hospital. Fun and laid back, they told us they were crazy about our work and they wanted to put the e-session in our hands. Those are magic words to photographers! They wanted to incorporate some Sloss Furnaces engagement photos, so we started there, then moved on to capture some of their chemistry and incorporate Tara’s beloved Mustang. We had such a great time with these two, and we can’t wait to show you their wedding photos. You’ll also see one of Tara’s wedding portraits I shot in our new fall ad for the Birmingham edition of Perfect Wedding Guide magazine, which comes out in late October. Barkha & Sumit’s Indian Engagement Session

If it’s one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s Indian weddings. The colors, the ceremonies and the emotions are highlights for any photographer. Barkha and Sumit are having their long-awaited two-day Indian wedding on July 23 and 24 at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala. Barkha has flown home for her bridal session is this weekend and we’re getting everything ready for the big shoot tomorrow at her family home. Barkha’s mom, Vandana, and sisters Kanika and Rhadika, make us feel like family and we’re so thrilled to share this experience with the whole Manne gang. I can’t convey to you what an honor it is, for us as non-Indians, to be selected to capture an Indian wedding.

This weekend’s photo session will include multiple outfits from India that are to die for. I’m getting together our ideas for traditional Indian bridal poses, which are so elegant! I can already promise gorgeous photos, and here’s why I’m so confident. Take a look at highlights of their e-session at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens (a great spot for weddings, btw) and Sibyl Temple in Vestavia Hills. I love how Barkha is as chic in traditional Indian attire as she is in American clothes. And what fun for photographers to have such a variety! Tori & Mitchell’s “Sweet Home, Alabama” Movie Engagement Photos

A couple of weeks ago we got to enjoy the first real glimpse of spring with a way-cool couple, Tori and Mitch. We hit it off with them pretty quickly, hugging by the end of our first meeting at Engaged! wedding library in Homewood. Tori told me they wanted something rustic and vintage for their engagement photos, so we decided on the always-picturesque Old Baker Farm in Harpersville.Jerry Baker was kind enough to give us the run of his family-owned farm. I think it’s about 100 years old. Jerry and his wife host Civil War re-enactments there from time to time, which prompted Tori to nickname it her Sweet Home, Alabama photo shoot, for the Reese Witherspoon movie. By the way, that was the first movie I wanted Daniel to see when he made his first trip to the United States, not long after the film came out!

When you’ve been in the city for a while, seeing about a dozen animals march across the farm, unprompted, to the barn is quite a sight and we all just loved it. There were goats, sheep, horses, chickens, a mule teasing a couple of baby goats and a donkey bringing up the rear. The chickens wandered around us during the first photos, and one of the three adorable dogs brought Tori and Mitchell a fresh farm egg as a welcome gift. The red horse you see was quite the camera hound, popping his head into quite of few of the photos! We had such a great day and the photo opportunities were endless.

Mitch and Tori are getting married at Rosewood mansion in Pinson on July 31, 2010, and we’re also excited to be photographing their rehearsal dinner at one of our favorite spots, B&A Warehouse. It’s going to be a fantastic couple of days, I can already tell you. We so glad to be getting to know you both. Your love for each other and your families is just awesome. Thanks for picking us to be part of your special day!

The First Blog Post! Karen and Eugene’s Engagement Shoot

Thanks so much for visiting my first blog post for Daniel Taylor Photography!

One of my favorite things is to create engagement, wedding and day-after photos inspired by my favorite wedding and fashion magazines. Karen Presley and Eugene Gibson were the perfect couple for a photo adventure. The pair wanted something different from anything we had ever done before, and I think we all got a little more than we bargained for!

Everyone was up by sunrise ready for photos by 8 a.m. and in Hayden for our shoot at The Great Pumpkin Patch. Every year, this family farm transforms into an autumn extravaganza, complete with tractor-pulled hayrides, a petting zoo, funnel cakes and a ton of great photo ops — whether you shoot with a Canon 5D or a cell phone.

The owners, Pauline and Julie, couldn’t have been more hospitable. Karen and Eugene got a private hay ride, a first for the pair. We were all so excited to have about 40 minutes alone in the pumpkin patch for our session.

You would never guess from these beautiful photos, but we were shooting in about 40-degree weather in a steady mist of rain. Karen was also nursing a cold! Between shots, we threw a blanket over her and plied her with Kleenex and hot cocoa. What a trooper! She didn’t complain once! Come to think of it, neither did Eugene!

For other couples wondering what to wear for their engagement photo session, Eugene and Karen offer a great example of how to compliment each other without being too matchy-matchy. They follow in the footsteps of other well-coordinated couples like Ashton and Demi, Michelle and Barack and Brad and Angie.
