We at Daniel Taylor Photography were so stoked to photograph a gorgeous, four-day Pakistani wedding last month.

Maryam’s parents couldn’t have been more excited about the wedding, and we had a blast working with them to coordinate complete wedding coverage. Maryam’s parents wanted to surprise her with a dance during the first night of the wedding events, the mayun (ubton) ceremony. That surprised smile on her face is when her parents, who rarely dance, burst into a full-tilt performance that delighted everyone in the room at Embassy Suites in Hoover. We enjoyed getting to know Gary Rush from Rush Videos, who handled the videography. Fifth Season event design in Atlanta created breath-taking decor throughout the weekend and DJ Jaz of Atlanta kept great music going for all the guests to enjoy.

Here are a few highlights from the first day of the wedding events, hosted by Maryam’s family. Isn’t she just lovely in her traditional orange dress? Orange is a popular color for the mehendi, which is when the women gather to sing and honor the bride and the upcoming wedding. Many families now combine the mehendi and include the men, too. It was truly an honor to share in the joy of the wonderful family and their loving friends.

We get all excited here at Daniel Taylor Photography whenever we get a wedding referral from the Wynfrey Hotel (soon to be the Hyatt), especially when it’s for an Indian or Pakistani wedding event. Our good friend Heather Dill referred Pinal and Keval to us for their gorgeous Hindu engagement ceremony. We’ll just tell you, you won’t find a better venue in town for South Asian wedding events. It’s always a highlight whenever we visit and the brides, grooms and their families are always thrilled.

We first got the call from Sheetal, the sister of the groom, about Keval’s  engagement to the lovely Pinal. There was a great team of vendors, most of them from Atlanta, including planner Nalini Gandhi and incredible lighting and furniture from Indaglow Productions of Atlanta. We were so honored to be involved.

We wish the bride- and groom-to-be a lifetime of happiness!

More about Nishita Baxi:

Nishita is a senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she is majoring in psychology and minoring in marketing and business administration. While at UAB, she has been involved in many organizations, including the University Honors Program, Psychology Honors Program, Student Government, University Programming Council, Trailblazers, and her sorority Alpha Omicron Pi.

Nishita is originally from Memphis TN, but has comfortably made Birmingham her home while pursuing her degree here. After graduation, she will be taking a semester off, and traveling to London and India. After she returns, she hopes to pursue a graduate, and then eventually a PhD in industrial psychology.

In her spare time, Nishita loves to read, shop, and travel. She continually obsesses over weddings, and is secretly already planning her Indian wedding celebration! Her greatest achievements include being names Ms. UAB 2010, and will be graduating from UAB in May!

Daniel Taylor Photography was beyond thrilled to be a part of Emily and Rob’s warm, Southern wedding at Asbury United Methodist Church in Hoover, Ala.  As the Wedding and Events Marketing Manager for the stunning Russell Lands properties at Lake Martin, Emily knows her stuff when it comes to weddings. It was an even bigger honor when the couple chose us to help capture their big day.

With tons of family and friends in attendance, the celebration was personal and authentic–just like the loving couple. Rob, the executive chef at SpringHouse Restaurant at Lake Martin, made sure the food was top-notch and had guests practically knocking each other over for a taste of his maple bacon groom’s cake from Dreamcakes Bakery in Homewood. There were even cute jars of the luscious bacon strips on the side, for attendees to munch on. And even more exciting news for the culinary groom–he’ll be competing on Food Network’s Iron Chef on Feb. 26 at 9 pm as part of acclaimed chef Chris Hastings’ team! Rob’s first job out of culinary school was under Hastings at Hot & Hot Fish Club in Birmingham. Be sure to tune in!

We want to thank wedding planner Alene Gamel of I Do, I Do, for sending Rob and Emily our way. She always has great energy, pays particular attention to detail, and we never have to worry about anything being off schedule when AG is the team captain. The lovely autumn florals were from Main Street Florist in Mt Laurel. The Inverness Country Club served as the couple’s reception venue and caterer, and we couldn’t have been more impressed with their service. The food was great and everyone had a wonderful and fun evening dancing the night away.

The couple’s dazzling chauffeur in stilettos, Diana, from Coats Classic Cars, whisked Emily and Rob away in stunning getaway limos at the end of the night after they departed through the shower of bubbles and the spray of champagne.

Ribs from Butts To Go in Pell City, Ala. By Daniel Taylor Photography

I was up late editing wedding photos recently, so Daniel woke up early and took our bassets, Jenna and Scarlett, on a little road trip to Pell City. They got some gorgeous food at Butts To Go, a cool little bbq joint about 30 minutes outside of Birmingham in the Texaco about a mile off I-20, the Pell/City-Ashville exit.

Butts To Go is owned by Wade Reich, father of Paden Reich, who is a special sections project editor at the Southern Living who handles the gorgeous wedding mag that comes out this time of year and is GORGEOUS. Paden and Daniel recently teamed up for a photo session featuring Alabama products, scheduled to come out soon in Birmingham magazine, where Daniel is also a staff photographer.

Directions: I-20 East to Exit 158 Pell-City Ashville. From the exit ramp, turn right. Go about a mile and Butts To Go is on the left inside the Texaco station. Dine in or carry out.
