Anniversary & Food Photo Session at Lake Martin, Ala.: Rob and Emily

We don’t even know where to start on what a great couple Rob and Emily are, which is why Daniel Taylor Photography was more than excited to do a laid-back anniversary session with the duo! And we couldn’t have been more stoked when it turned into a mini food photo session, too!

You might remember the lovebirds from their rehearsal dinner at Stone’s Throw in Mt Laurel, Ala., and their beautiful, rustic wedding at Asbury United Methodist Church. Their special day is scheduled to appear on the Rustic Wedding Chic blog.

Emily is in marketing at the gorgeous Russell Lands at Lake Martin, where  she used to help prospective brides with their weddings at Russell Crossroads, including The Stables at Russell Crossroads and SpringHouse restaurant, where her talented husband Rob just happens to be the executive chef.  The couple’s fabulous wedding planner, Alene Gamel of I Do, I do, recommended them  to us and it’s been a match made in heaven!

We were just tickled to spend some time with Emily, Rob, and their adorable dog Lilly at their home on Lake Martin. We brought along our bassets, Scarlett and Jenna, and spent a relaxing day with the McDaniel clan. It was great to hang out, take some photos and eat absolutely incredible food that left us begging for more. We got it, because they sent us home with leftovers! We’ve profiled Chef Rob for B-Metro magazine and Birmingham magazine, too, so it was beyond awesome to capture him with Emily making culinary magic at home. We think the photos really captured both the couple’s cool, laid-back spirits.

Birmingham, Ala. Wedding at The Tutwiler Hotel and The Summit Club

Daniel Taylor Photography

Daniel Taylor Photography  adores a wedding at The Tutwiler Hotel, whether it’s getting ready, a first look, an around-the-door moment, a wedding ceremony or a perfect Southern reception. Bailey and Brett wanted natural, relaxed photos that weren’t forced or cheesy. You might remember the lovebirds from their great engagement session at their home with the dogs, then at Nana Funks bar, where they first connected.

We started at the historic Tutwiler Hotel, where the couple got ready. We have to say that this is one of the most beautiful places in Birmingham for weddings, getting ready and wedding honeymoon nights. Bailey and Brett had a stunning sunset wedding ceremony atop The Summit Club in downtown Birmingham. Bailey wore a jaw-dropping gown from The White Room and the elegant flowers were from FlowerJoy in Riverchase. Our dear friend Jessica Lazarus did a gorgeous job with hair styling and Chi Peoples had all the girls gushing over their make-up.

Guests enjoyed delicious cakes from Magnificent Cakes, and coordinator extraordinaire Ginny Au was responsible for keeping the day on track.

Brett and Bailey are pretty awesome dancers, so a highlight of the night was definitely the rockin’ unscripted first dance. You could see where Brett gets it from with the mother-son dance! It was so full of energy! The crowd also went wild when the groom jumped on stage and started jamming with the band a little later in the night.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! Thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!

Wedding Reception at The Club Birmingham, AL with Fireworks

Daniel Taylor Photography

The fireworks show was a romantic ending to the day for Katie and Rob at their wedding reception at The Club in Birmingham. Photo by Daniel Taylor Photography.

Daniel Taylor Photography was thrilled to photograph Katie and Rob’s gorgeous wedding at Highlands United Methodist Church and their stunning wedding reception at The Club in Birmingham. The reception was complete with post-wedding fireworks. And when we say gorgeous, not only were the ceremony and reception beautiful, but have you seen this couple?! Stunning!

The glowing bride, Katie, has been voted one of Birmingham’s most beautiful people, while her handsome husband, Rob, is an ophthalmologist. The couple wanted a wedding that was classic and elegant, but with a few modern twists. We think they hit the nail on the head! The kid’s candy table was a fun touch, complete with a kid-friendly centerpiece. It was perfect for Rob’s precious daughter Mia, who was also the maid of honor.

Katie looked stunning in an Ivory & White dress and Kate Spade wedding shoes. Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market created gorgeous, vibrant blooms for the ceremony and reception. Magnificent Cakes crafted the beautiful and purple ombre wedding cake. Wedding band Super T (who played at presidential daughter Jenna Bush’s reception) kept the guests dancing all night long, while lighting was by AG Lighting. Mark Five Productions captured the whole day on video, and the couple left from the reception in a stunning vintage limo from Coats Classic Cars and Birmingham Bridal Carriages.  Thanks to our dear friend Meghan of M. Elizabeth Events for sending us another fabulous wedding.

We just loved being a part of this awesome wedding. Congratulations Katie and Rob.

Birmingham and Alabama Wedding Trend: Outdoor Southern Weddings

Half of Daniel Taylor Photography hails from Birmingham, Alabama, or ‘Bama as we say down here. The other half is an adopted Southerner via Australia, and we couldn’t love it more. That being said, we work with lots of fabulous Southern clients! From elegant Spanish Moss in New Orleans and Mobile, to DIY details with fresh cotton and monograms, to cowboy boots galore, these modern-day Southern belles know how to put on a beautiful wedding that shows their roots with their own personal style.

We’ve had the privilege to photograph a number of gorgeous outdoor Southern weddings and engagement sessions. We love the rustic feel they have while still being elegant. Southern affairs also seem to let the couple’s personality shine through. It gives a true reflection of what they care about, where they came from, and shows their love is just as strong in a casual environment.

Take a look at some of our favorite outdoor Southern weddings:

Heather and John

What’s more Southern than a lowcountry New Orleans wedding? Heather and John’s wedding came complete with a parasol for the bride and banana pudding served at the reception. See their Terrell House and NOLA City Park wedding and New Orleans engagement session.

Tori and Mitch had a quintessential Southern wedding at Rosewood in Pinson and a gorgeous rustic engagement session at Old Baker Farm. We love the cotton ring detail and the outdoor chandelier.

Mattie and George

Mattie and George’s wedding at Rucker Place in Birmingham was bursting with Southern details. We loved the floating tea lights in the garden, and the pair even served fried green tomatoes to their guests. Doesn’t get much more Southern than that!

Holly and Murray

Holly and Murray took their Point Clear, Ala. wedding at The Grand way down South to the beach. It was a perfect day for an outdoor ceremony and The Grand hotel has picturesque landscapes. The couple had a rustic Southern engagement session as well. We loved their matching cowboy boots!

Alex and Ben’s American Village wedding was definitely sophisticated Southern. Alex toted hydrangeas down the aisle in her bouquet and the couple had nature-themed details throughout the affair.

Is there anything more Southern than bride- and groom-to-be with a quilt and a dog in their engagement photos? We just loved Lindsey and Brandon’s session, including dog Stella. Photographed at Old Baker Farm by Daniel Taylor Photography.

Birmingham, Ala. Wedding and Matt Jones Gallery Reception

Daniel Taylor Photography

Kellie and Dan share a heartfelt moment on their wedding day. Photo by Daniel Taylor Photography.

This was a fun first for Daniel Taylor Photography. We, Kelli and Dan Taylor, were so privileged to photograph Kellie and Dan’s wedding! How funny is that, y’all? Kellie (the bride) was just tickled, and so were we!

The gorgeous couple had their ceremony at St. Mark’s Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham and a laid back, lovely reception at Matt Jones Gallery. The Gallery is now unfortunately closed, but its fabulous owners are opening a new venue downtown, Bridgestreet Gallery and Lofts, which has a similar feel. Kellie looked beautiful in a dress by Birmingham’s own Heidi Elnora, and the ceremony and reception was filled with stunning flowers by our dear, dear friend at HotHouse Design Studio, designer J. Ross Railey.

The couple’s delicious cakes were by Olexa’s and we photographed the lovebirds during a wedding after-session at Mt Laurel Grocery and Deli between the ceremony and reception. Thanks for letting this Kelli and Dan be part of your day, Kellie and Dan! We wish you all the best!
