Along with beautiful weddings, fun engagement sessions and family photos, Daniel Taylor Photography loves getting to capture the beauty of a blushing bride in pre-wedding bridal portraits in Birmingham, Ala.

Whether they are elegant and formal, or relaxed and fun, bridal portrait sessions are always exciting experiences for a once-in-a-lifetime event that allow for gorgeous photos in a more relaxed setting. For the bride-to-be, it’s an ideal trial run on hair, dress, make-up and shoes. Brides can feel confident that the choices they’ve made are perfect, or tweak a few details that can make good choices even better.

How do you choose the perfect location for a wedding bridal photo session? Make it personal. A family home or the home of a friend can be more relaxed, with all the necessities close at hand. Some brides love their wedding venues so much that they want that extra time in a beautiful location. Others simply choose a location that just seems like a cool location. And how much fun to bring your adorable dog, or a guitar, or anything else to make the session uniquely you?

Always remember, though, that even the most pristine of bridal photo sessions is likely to leave a little bit of dust on the edges of a wedding dress. Make sure to to talk with your bridal salon professionals beforehand about spot cleaning options so your dress is as gorgeous as you want it to be.

Take a look at some of our favorite photos from many fabulous bridal sessions:

We love when brides do their own thing, and that was definitely the case with Mary Katherine’s vintage-inspired bridal portraits. The session, held at her family home in Mountain Brook, was formal, old-fashioned and beautiful.

For Abagail’s bridal session at the historic Tutwiler Hotel, we went a little old-fashioned glamour. She looked beautiful against the gorgeous setting of the hotel.

Cameron Oaks Farms Wedding Bridal Session: Lindsey

Daniel Taylor Photography

The historic cabins at Cameron Oaks Farms in Wilsonville, Ala. were an absolutely beautiful backdrop for Lindsey’s bridal portraits. Photo by Daniel Taylor Photography.

Daniel Taylor Photography loves when we get to experience a new wedding venue, and Cameron Oaks Farms in Wilsonville, Ala., just outside of Birmingham, did not disappoint. The rustic chic location had historic cabins, a gorgeous lake and a beautiful garden, which were all so perfect for Lindsey’s bridal session. You might remember the Southern bride-to-be from the couple’s rustic DIY engagement session at Old Baker Farm.

We had so much fun photographing such a lovely bride, and think the venue is a fantastic, photogenic choice for a wedding, bridal session or engagement session.

Birmingham Wedding Photo Trends: Pre-Wedding First Looks

Daniel Taylor Photography

Holly and Murray had their first look in The Grand’s gorgeous lagoon, complete with Southern Spanish moss. Photo by Daniel Taylor Photography in Point Clear, Ala.

Take it from Daniel Taylor Photography, wedding days can get emotional, and at times, a little hectic. OK, let’s be completely honest: Sometimes they get a little crazy. With all that emotion, one of the most amazing, calming things that can happen is a pre-wedding first look. It’s a chance to be alone, share your feelings, process through the emotion, and just be held by the most important person in your life before the biggest event of your existence.

Some couples worry it will take away from the big moment walking down the aisle. Nothing could be further from the truth, couples tell us. You can actually be more connected and more in the moment during that aisle walk, enjoy it more, and of course, get even more great photos! And yes, planners and others who love organizing will also tout how it speeds up the after-ceremony photo time (because more photos can be done beforehand) and gets you to your reception faster.

From our own personal experience, Daniel and I did a pre-wedding first look, and after the insanity of our wedding preparations, it was, and remains to this day, one of the most incredible moments between us. After seeing him, I felt love and confidence that translated into pure joy for the rest of our wedding day.

We’ve been so lucky to capture lots of first looks. Some emotional, some playful, all of them extremely meaningful. Take a look of some of our favorite pre-wedding first looks from The Grand in Point Clear, American Village and Samford University’s Reid Chapel and Tutwiler Hotel:

Birmingham Wedding Photography Trends: Around-the-Door Moments

Daniel Taylor Photography sees lots of love in photographing weddings around Birmingham and Alabama. It’s one of the best parts of our job. Even though we adore capturing the first look of love between a bride and groom before their wedding, sometimes it can be even more meaningful when the couple doesn’t see each other before the ceremony. A sweet around-the-door moment is an amazing opportunity for the couple to connect and capture that emotion without actually seeing each other.

See some of the touching around-the-door moments we’ve been privileged enough to photograph:
