Lindsay and Ethan are married! Daniel Taylor Photography had the privilege of shooting another fantastic wedding at one of our favorite venues, the beautiful Sonnet House in Leeds, Ala. This fun-loving couple celebrated their love in a ceremony at the elegant wedding venue.

The bride’s sister, Jennifer, enlisted DTP for the couple’s nuptials, and explained the nature theme they had in mind. We knew we had to introduce them to the wonderful Mandy Majerik of HotHouse Design Studio, who could really make their signature colors of oranges and greens something memorable. Wasn’t Lindsay’s bouquet stunning?!

Guests couldn’t stop talking about the scrumptious cake by Dreamcakes in Homewood (that is when they weren’t gobbling it down!) and we loved the groom’s treat as an alternative to another cake. Ethan delighted guests with man-sized cookies, complete with shooters of milk. How fun! Chris Amerson of Amerson Events, one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, kept the party going as the event’s DJ.

The entire family and bridal party were dedicated to spending a fun day filled with love and laughter. Even the adorable kids were included in the festivities, while still being allowed to be kids.

Thanks Lindsay and Ethan for letting us shoot your wedding!

Southern Wedding Rehearsal Dinner at Stone’s Throw in Mt Laurel, Ala.: Emily & Rob

Rob and Emily had a beautiful, intimate rustic-chic fall rehearsal dinner at the utterly charming Stone’s Throw Bar & Grill in Mt Laurel, Alabama.

Daniel Taylor Photography fell in love with groom-to-be Rob before we knew him. Rob is the executive chef at SpringHouse restaurant at Lake Martin. We eat a lot of very average event food, but were truly, totally and completely dazzled by the look and taste of his creations at a fabulous Southern chic rehearsal dinner last spring at the restaurant. It’s the only wedding event we’ve photographed where the family had insisted on a photo of the chef.

A few months later we got a call from a delightful bride-to-be named Emily, who was engaged to a chef at Lake Martin. Her wedding planner, Alene Gamel of I Do! I Do! had recommended us Thanks so much, Alene!

Emily must have thought I was crazy because I got so excited I could barely contain myself.  Yep, it was the same guy (who by the way competes on Chris Hastings’ team on an episode of Iron Chef Feb. 26)!

We met this adorable couple in person and quickly fell in love with Emily, too. We were immediately struck by their vision for their rehearsal dinner and wedding. They wanted something authentic, elegant and inviting, “like people were coming to our home,” Emily explained. Main Street Florist in Mt Laurel created the florals, which were the perfect touches to the affair. We appreciate Rob’s mother, Diane, for inviting us to capture it all!

Stone's Throw in Mt Laurel is a great choice for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Daniel Taylor Photography

This rehearsal dinner was like a feature straight out of Garden & Gun magazine. The cozy restaurant had an outdoor fire pit roaring. We loved the candlelight, the beautifully initialed pumpkins, the wildflowers in Mason jars, the bluegrass band, and the food. Oh the food. Can’t forget the mini pies, tons of them, each one more Southern than the next. A young niece and nephew played guitar and sang — wonderfully, by the way, and with confidence beyond their years. The love in that room was impossible to ignore.

We hope you enjoy highlights of this rehearsal dinner as much as we did. I wish you could have been there.

Stay tuned for Emily and Rob’s wedding, complete with a delicious, bacon-encrusted wedding cake that people were tripping over themselves to taste.

We are so appreciative of Weddinggawker.com for choosing another of our engagement photos to feature yesterday. This is the one that’s been the most popular on our Pinterest boards, of Tara and Shaun’s engagement with their two dogs. And make sure to start your addiction to Weddinggawker.com, a wonderful place for beautiful, high-quality engagement photos.

You know Daniel Taylor Photography adores the Wynfrey Hotel. The service is fantastic and with renovations in the works, it's going to continue to be amazing. Words can't express how tickled we are that they would use two of our photos (the pink ones) for their ad in Southern Bride magazine.

Daniel Taylor Weddings’ Most Popular Pinterest Photo

The photo idea-sharing community Pinterest has added a new dimension to what wedding vendors call “wedding season,” the busy booking time from December to February.

Daniel Taylor Photography

This engagement photo with the couple's dog, Dakota, has become Daniel Taylor Photography's most popular photo on Pinterest.

For Daniel Taylor Photography, our 30+ Pinterest boards have been seeing repins and likes from 7 in the morning until about 3 a.m., and the hot topic is weddings and engagements. We’ve loved watching the images that are resonating with fans we know, and newly engaged brides who are finding us days after their proposals and starting inspiration boards for their big days.

As of Jan. 10, by far our most popular image is this one: Tara and Shaun’s hands, the ring, and their scene-stealer pup Dakota’s pedicured pink paw. This image has been repined nearly 50 times over the last few days, all hours of the day and night.

Couples love the idea of incorporating their “babies” into the photos. In Shaun’s case, he enlisted the couple’s two dogs to help propose, with the big question imprinted on two dog tags, Will You and Marry Me? What an adorable idea!

And of course, you can email me at info@danieltaylorphoto.com if you’re looking for photographers to make all your Pinterest dreams come true!

If you haven’t discovered Pinterest yet, let me warn you–it’s addictive. And it’s a collection of not just wedding and engagement ideas, but food, decorating, fashion and entertaining.

Happy pinning!

Daniel and I had so much fun popping into the Wynfrey Hotel’s Elegant Weddings bridal show this afternoon. Felt like we were in New York for a minute … Our friend Heather Dill, who organizes  the weddings and cool events at the hotel, always does an incredible job. People rave about the experiences. Check out a few images that Daniel took at the very cool fashion show.

Disclaimer: We were not official photographers or anything, but everything was so gorgeous Daniel couldn’t resist! Daniel Taylor Photography is always ready with a camera. All the models were gorgeous and we just loved seeing model May Watts for the first time.

Our friends Cathy and Carolyn Kelley, of the The White Room bridal salon in Cahaba Heights, provided the gorgeous bridal gowns for the show. Their service is second-to-none and all our brides who use them adore them. Seriously, not kidding.

Published: Grant Brigham of Jones Valley Urban Farm in B Metro Magazine

For the January issue of the always-terrific B-Metro magazine, I had the pleasure of interviewing and photographing Grant Brigham, the new director of Jones Valley Urban Farm in Birmingham, a non-profit that grows organic fruits and vegetables. You may have also seen some of the sunflowers JVUF sells at Whole Foods. JVUF is an incredible, nationally acclaimed learning center. Brigham’s team educates teachers, students and cafeteria workers in the urban areas about healthy eating. You can learn more about JVUF in complete article, which is part of B-Metro’s A-List of achievers for 2011.

Check it out:

Grant Brigham is leading the nationally acclaimed Jones Valley Urban Farm into its second decade.

by Kelli Hewett Taylor

Grant Brigham returned home in 2011 to become the second executive director of Jones Valley Urban Farm. He brought along some cutting-edge non-profit business ideas to anchor this downtown Birmingham jewel as it enters its second decade.

Since 2001, JVUF has risen to national acclaim as a fresh food oasis supported by some of Birmingham’s top culinary names. To help sustain the farm’s educational programs and continue growing organic crops, Brigham has introduced ideas of social entrepreneurship, a national movement in business to make non-profits more competitive and more efficient.

“If people were givers or donors before, we want them to be investors from now on,” says Brigham, who has a master’s degree in agricultural education. “People should expect returns on their investments from us, to know how their money is making a difference.”

Brigham grew up in Mountain Brook, the son of Mountain Brook realtor and businessman Tommy Brigham. Grant has sought out unfamiliar life experiences, living in Uganda for several years, working with small farming businesses in Hyderabad, India, and working as a laborer on an organic teaching farm in southern Costa Rica.

“There was no relationship with food when I was growing up,” Brigham says. “I never went hungry, or went without. I never had to wonder where food came from. Now it’s something I think about often and am obsessed about. Jones Valley has grown from a vision. It’s a business now that Birmingham and Jefferson County need.”

Part of his path to non-profit work traces to Brigham’s friendship with the late Civil Rights leader, the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth. Brigham pondered how he might have reacted had he been alive during the Civil Rights Movement. “Rev. Shuttlesworth challenged me to see that, as much as I could imagine history, I had to consider where we were in the world now and how I could change the problems in the present,” Brigham says.

Now, Brigham is leading the Jones Valley team in a search for more grant, corporate and government funding and a permanent building to call home.

“Grant comes from a long line of successful business men and women,” farm co-founder Edwin Marty says. “I think he fundamentally understands a non-profit’s needs and successful business management.”

Others agree.

“He’s really smart and understands what it’s going to take to make Jones Valley sustainable,” says Jones Valley board member Nick Pihakis, of Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q.  “That’s so critical—how we can be around for the next generations. We need to make more people aware of Jones Valley, and I think Grant’s going to do that.”

Brigham admits it was a bit daunting stepping into his new role. “This is my first shot being the leader of an organization, so if it fails, the blame is on me,” he says.

END of B-Metro Article.

I love Grant’s intensity when it comes to the things that are important to him, and he really has a passion for making people healthier through good food. He’s devoted to supporting local and small businesses, and he is always open to the best ideas the world has to offer. Before he moved back to Birmingham, Grant lived and worked in Uganda, India and Central America with small agricultural businesses and how to make them more successful in emerging nations. We’re glad to have him back in the ‘Ham.

We’ve been telling you all month that Daniel Taylor Photography is kicking off a media blitz, and we couldn’t be more excited that it formally begins with a featured engagement session on the terrific national blog Love and Lavender. This is a great resource for creative wedding ideas.

This awesome blog featured Danielle and Stephen’s book-themed e-session, created by our favorite English rose, wedding planner and photo stylist Ginny Au of Bits & Bobs Events.

Have a look at the entire Daniel Taylor Photography session and be sure to leave a comment to show some love!

Ginny is the creative genius behind this whole thing and  she referred the Samford University chemists us to them earlier this year. Danielle and Stephen one of the cutest and most fun couples that wedding photographers could ask for, and they were totally us for this idea.

Ginny, who is creating wedding details like no one else in Alabama that we’ve come across, lives and breathes modern vintage weddings and national blogs. She brainstormed and pulled out all the stops for this styled — but totally real — engagement.

Danielle and Stephen love books, so Bits & Bobs wrapped vintage tomes in ribbon and added flowers. By Daniel Taylor Photography.

E-sessions in Birmingham can get a little predictable sometimes. That why we just love it when great wedding planners connect us with adorable couples who are up for something different. We love Ginny  for referring us and we’re proud to be one of her preferred photographers!

The session was at Morgan Creek Winery in Harpersville, about 40 minutes southeast of Birmingham. Ginny brought her SUV packed with furniture, sweets, and some of the most gorgeous hand-made details you’ve ever laid eyes on. There were hollowed-out vintage books stuffed with flowers, books tied with ribbons, mason jars with candles, macaroons, mini flags, and all sorts of other cool stuff you can see in the photos.

Ginny is a a native of England, but spent several years in Australia, so she and Daniel go all British Commonwealth when they are together. I’ll tell you the truth–sometimes even I can’t quite keep up with the conversation when the accents get going fast.
