Daniel Taylor Photography had the pleasure of photographing sweet couple Erin and Matt for their Oak Mountain State Park engagement session. Our dear friend and wedding planner Meghan Cease of M. Elizabeth Events recommended the pair to us and we couldn’t have been more excited!

We decided on an outdoorsy feel for their engagement session and Oak Mountain Park was the perfect spot for this laid-back duo. Natural, unforced, chill and romantic. We just loved it!

Congratulations to Matt and Erin! We’re so looking forward to your wedding!

Y’all might remember Alyssa and Ian from their oh-so-fun steampunk-themed engagement session at Sloss Furnaces. We at Daniel Taylor Photography just fell in love with this adorable couple from the minute we met them! Their March wedding at Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Hoover was held on one of those crazy bitterly cold days we had during the month – there were even a few snow flurries!

Alyssa loves English and Victorian style, and wanted to incorporate the elements into their afternoon reception, complete with an elegant tea station. We had recommended wedding planner Ann Marie Leveille of Tres Beau Weddings and Special Events and she was simply amazing pulling everything together for the big day. Ann Marie even has a gorgeous set of vintage teacups and fabulous recipes for tea accoutrements like vanilla sugar, and y’all, guests just went nuts over it all. Alyssa and Ian even decided to do their wedding toast with cups of hot tea. Y’all know how we love it when brides and grooms put personal touches into their wedding days! Kudos to Donna Scott for the incredibly delicious strawberry and vanilla wedding cake, and to Shirley Carmack for the lovely florals.

Steampunk Engagement Photos in Birmingham, Ala., at Sloss Furnaces

One of the best parts of our jobs is meeting so many great couples and experiencing their unique, amazing personalities. Lys and Ian’s engagement photo session has to be one of the most awesome photo experiences we at Daniel Taylor Photography have had.

We would describe this session as Downton Abbey meets steampunk. For those of you who aren’t familiar with steampunk, it’s a retro-futuristic sci-fi niche, It incorporates elements of late 1800s steam machinery and Victorian style. Pretty cool, huh? The industrial Sloss Furnaces was the perfect spot for this couple’s engagement session.

We were super impressed with how talented Lys is, making her own dress for the occasion. Her corset, Ian’s clothes and their accessories were from an online specialty clothing retailer that specialized in period clothes, with impeccable attention to detail.

Since steampunk goes with the Victorian England era, we wanted to give the couple that feel with their photos. We used more subdued colors and incorporated brown and white and sepia tones instead of more modern black and whites.

This session was so fun, y’all and we just love it when couples incorporate their interests into their engagement photos. Watch for Lys and Ian’s beautiful wedding on the blog soon!

Daniel Taylor Photography has to give a huge shout-out to the fabulous Renee Mikell of Rosewood in Pinson for recommending us to gorgeous couple, Lida and Jerrod. These two lovebirds were so fun and up for anything at their laid-back engagement session. We love couples who are into authenticity, and Lida and Jay chose to steer away from anything contrived, or anything that wasn’t true to who they really are.

The day began at Yogurt Mountain in Trussville, where the couple shared their first date, then we moved on to Rosewood. Lida and Jerrod loved the location so much, they wanted to photograph there twice! We love it just as much!

Brides love Rosewood in Pinson and the great work that Renne does because it’s a one-stop shop for all their wedding needs. The photo-ready location also provides gorgeous florals, cakes, catering and amazing organization. Thanks so much, Renee, for sharing what we do! And congratulations to Lida and Jerrod. We’re ecstatic to be shooting this couple’s wedding!

Daniel Taylor Photography is over the moon y’all! We are so thrilled to share with you that we’re being featured in an Australian wedding book showcasing pretty dogs in weddings, called “Wedding Dogs: A Celebration of Pure Muttrimony.” And equally exciting is that the book was mentioned in the most recent issue of People!

Daniel Taylor Photography is featured in a new wedding book, “Wedding Dogs,” that is recognized in the latest issue of People magazine.

We were approached by the Aussie author, Katie Preston Toepfer, after she saw some of our photos from our lovely 2012 bride Angela’s bridal session at B&A Warehouse with her cutie-pie dogs, Shelby and Ally. Katie invited us to participate in the project and we were completely stoked. This is so special for DTP, especially because of our Australian roots. You all know that Daniel is a pure blood Aussie, but Kelli’s mother is also an Aussie. Kelli and Daniel were married in Australia! You also know how crazy we are for dogs in weddings. What could be more perfect?

The People article showcases a few of the fabulous photos in the book and you’ll be able to see our gorgeous bride when the book comes out on April 16th, here in the US. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Be sure to grab a copy y’all!

Wedding at Aldridge Gardens in Birmingham, AL: Amanda and Allen

Daniel Taylor Photography was overly excited to capture the nuptials between sweet couple, Amanda and Allen. Allen is the beloved vet to our dear pups, Jenna and Scarlett, and Amanda is a librarian in Hoover. The couple had their low-key, yet beautiful October wedding at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover, Ala.

We had a blast capturing the duo’s big day, and folks around Birmingham love this adorable couple as well. Their Sloss Furnaces and Railroad Park engagement photos received more “Likes” on Facebook than any engagement or wedding we’ve ever done! Amanda claims it’s because people love “love over 40.”

The day was even more special because Allen’s daughters, Sophie and Madeline were included in every aspect. They served as the “Best (Wo)man” and “Maid of Honor,” helped them cut the cake, and even walked down the aisle with Allen and Amanda. It was an incredible way to blend a family and start a new chapter together.

The lovely autumn flowers were provided by our friends at Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market in Homewood and the yummy cake was from Olexa‘s in Mountain Brook. Hair and make-up was from our good friend Melissa Moore Bogardus. We wish these two a lifetime of happiness and are honored to have captured their special day.

This was Daniel Taylor Photography’s first wedding at Cameron Oaks Farm in Wilsonville, just outside of Birmingham. We loved it y’all! Lindsey and Brandon’s gorgeous rustic wedding had a sweet laid-back feel, and the venue boasted tons of beautiful photos spots. Some of our favorite details of the day included the baby’s breath-filled mason jars that decorated the aisle, and the personalized jars of honey favors with “Meant to Bee” tags emblazoned with Lindsey & Brandon’s names and wedding date on them.

The couple stayed true to themselves with their down home, rustic photo details. From their lovely engagement session at Old Baker Farm with their cute dog Stella, to Lindsey’s bridal session with cowboy boots, to the laid-back — yet chic — outdoor fall wedding, we loved that they put their personalities into the experience. Can you tell Lindsey loves Pinterest, y’all?

At the wedding, the pretty flowers were from Rachel Gaudel and Andy Boyles of Birmingham, and wedding planner Ouida Jones-Johnson kept everything on time and had the day running smoothly, and keeping everyone smiling and enjoying the day.

Chicago & Indianapolis Destination Engagement Photography

We had to get a photo of Shannon and Peter in front of the infamous “Bean” statue at Millennium Park in Chicago. Photo by Daniel Taylor Photography.

It was truly a dream come true for Daniel Taylor Photography to work with Shannon and Peter on their two-state engagement session. We traveled to gorgeous Chicago and to Peter and Shannon’s current home of Indianapolis for their engagement photo extravaganza. The duo had about six outfit changes over two states in two days. It was an absolute blast y’all!

Shannon hails from Mountain Brook, Ala. and Peter co-owns a gym in Indianapolis. Both of them are hard-core fitness fiends, so they had plenty of energy for the two-day session. Some of our favorite highlights of the trip included Traderspoint Creamery, a gorgeous organic farm and restaurant in Indiana, the L-O-V-E statue at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, as well as the Bean statue at Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. Daniel actually came down with a grisly case of food poisoning in Chicago, so all the Windy City images are from Kelli.

The lovebirds were referred to us by hair artist extraordinaire, Jessica Lazarus, who is Shannon’s cousin. We first met Jessica a couple of years ago after hearing great things about her talent for special event hair from some other Birmingham wedding pros. She quickly became our personal hair stylist and friendl. We were simply honored that she would recommend us to her family!

Congratulations Shannon and Peter! We are beyond excited for your wedding!

Alene Gamel of I Do, I Do planned Alex and Ben’s amazing American Village nuptials. She made the day run so smoothly for the couple and we are always blown away by her work! Elegance, organization, budget advice and logistics like nobody’s business make Alene’s bride’s some of the most relaxed in Birmingham. And if you want to talk experience, she’s one of just a handful of master bridal consultants in the world.

We were thrilled that wedding planner Alene Gamel of I Do, I Do entrusted her 2013 photos with a more casual feel to Daniel Taylor Photography.

Ginny Au of Bits & Bobs Events helped Danielle and Stephen with their gorgeous Samford Reid Chapel wedding and reception at Veranda on Highland restaurant. She was amazing at styling the day and allowing the couple to incorporate some lovely personal details. She also helped them with their adorable book-themed engagement session, which was featured on the Love and Lavender blog. Ginny is the only planner we’ve worked with who is also an experienced stylist, which she says translates the couple’s most personal details into visual storytelling on their wedding day. We love how that looks in photos! She also created a beautiful styled photo shoot in whites and pale greens for an upcoming feature article.

Half of Daniel Taylor Photography is from the South, which allows us to photograph lots of wedding in the great outdoors. And we love it! The beautiful Southern landscape is perfect for a wedding and allows for pretty details that wouldn’t translate indoors. Folks, there’s just no substitution for the feel of natural light in wedding photography. Even if you have an indoor ceremony and reception, make time for some outdoor photos.

We at Daniel Taylor Photography love it when couples put meaningful and personal touches on their wedding day. And it’s even more special when those touches were made by friends and family. The end result is wedding photos that are uniquely your own, and not the latest fads from magazines or Pinterest. Check out some of the best of DIY wedding touches of 2012.

Brett and Bailey were an adorable couple, and they made sure that their dogs were a big part of their wedding photos. We were so thrilled that they wanted to include their sweet pups.

Ashton and Ryan had one of the prettiest weddings we’ve seen in a while with lots of personal details at their Russell Crossroads event at Lake Martin. At the ceremony at Heaven, guests sat on homemade quilts. At the wedding reception at The Stables at Russell Crossroads, the couple used family-owned dishes, tablecloths and other design touches. Southern bride Ashton also made sure she had her cowboy boots!

Daniel Taylor Photography is so excited that we got to be a part of Ashton and Ryan’s big day at the breathtaking Stables at Russell Crossroads at Lake Martin, part of the wonderful Russell Lands developments. This was one of the most elaborate, love-laden DIY weddings we’ve ever seen. There were literally truckloads of meaningful family belongings for both the ceremony and reception decor. Wow.

The beautiful ceremony was at a new site at the venue called Heaven, with jaw-dropping views, and the reception was at the rustic chic location, The Stables. The tablecloths, dishware and serving pieces were brought in from family, which gave such a warm, personal feel to the whole evening. At the ceremony, the handmade quilts that covered hay bales for guests to sit on were a huge hit!

A huge thank you to the amazing Russell Lands wedding team for a fantastic day and for recommending us. We could never get tired of this amazing location! Congratulations to Ashton and Ryan.

Birmingham, Ala. Surprise Wedding Proposal: Paige and Erin

This was one exciting photo shoot for Daniel Taylor Photography y’all! A surprise wedding proposal in Birmingham!

We first met Paige and Erin last summer at Emily and Blane’s Alys Beach wedding and thought she they were cute as a button, so we were beyond excited when Erin enlisted us for his surprise proposal. And not only did Erin propose with a gorgeous ring, but a key to a house that Paige was in love with, but had never been inside! It was seriously amazing. One of the sweetest gestures we have ever seen! And Paige’s expressions were just priceless.

Kelli was hidden across the street in true paparazzi fashion with a long camera lens, trying not to look like a stalker. Erin drove Paige to the house, pulled a sold sign from his trunk, and told her to put it on the the for sale sign. When she turned around, he was down on one knee with the ring. When she said yes, Kelli jumped out for a photo session in their new home!

After the awesome proposal, the couple headed to Saw’s Juke Joint in Crestline to celebrate with family at dinner. We loved capturing Erin and Paige’s proposal and wish them all the best in their new life together.

Daniel Taylor Photography is so lucky to have creative clients that show their love in amazing ways. We had a blast spending time with Lacy and Christopher, whose meaningful engagement session went from the fire station to the drive-in movies.

Christopher is a firefighter, and proposed to his gorgeous bride-to-be Lacy on a firetruck while they were watching Batman: The Dark Knight Rises! So awesome! We captured the couple in their element at the fire station, then moved to a nearby cotton field, and finished the day at the romantic Harpersville Drive-In, where Christopher proposed. We used a little post-production magic to bring the move back to the big screen.

We can’t wait for Lacy and Christopher’s wedding! Congratulations to the beautiful couple!

Shannon and Chris started their session at West Homewood Park, where they had their first kiss on home plate. How cute is that?! We moved on to quaint Cobb Lane, another one of the couple’s favorite spots. We loved their choice of wardrobe, and especially Shannon’s colorful dresses – photographic eye candy, for sure. It was awesome just watching them have so much fun together!

Congratulations Shannon and Chris, we can’t wait for your Old Hollywood-themed wedding!

Along with beautiful weddings, fun engagement sessions and the occasional family photos, Daniel Taylor Photography loves getting to capture the beauty of a blushing bride before her wedding day during bridal portrait sessions.

Whether they are elegant and formal, or relaxed and fun, bridal portrait sessions are always exciting experiences for a once-in-a-lifetime event that allow for gorgeous photos in a more relaxed setting. For the bride-to-be, it’s an ideal trial run on hair, dress, make-up and shoes. Brides can feel confident that the choices they’ve made are perfect, or tweak a few details that can make good choices even better.

How do you choose the perfect location for a wedding bridal photo session? Make it personal! A family home or the home of a friend can be more relaxed, with all the necessities close at hand. Some brides love their wedding venues so much that they want that extra time in a beautiful location. Others simply choose a location that just seems like a cool location. And how much fun to bring your adorable dog, or a guitar, or anything else to make the session uniquely you?

Always remember, though, that even the most pristine of bridal photo sessions is likely to leave a little bit of dust on the edges of a wedding dress. Make sure to to talk with your bridal salon professionals beforehand about spot cleaning options so your dress is as gorgeous as you want it to be.
